The Landseer Players are an amateur dramatics group based in Ipswich , Suffolk. Formed in 1979, initially as a joint venture between two neighbouring churches, our aim is to provide entertainment for the members of the local community, and to raise money for local charities and good causes in and around the Ipswich area.

We have performed at a number of venues in the Ipswich area, mostly in School or Church halls. All our early shows, from Oliver in 1980 to A Musical Journey in 1990 were perfomed in the 120 seat church hall of All Hallows. This is with the exception of Smike, which was performed at Murray Road Junior School, Ipswich.

1991, saw a change of venue to Orwell Junior School, Robeck Road, Ipswich, which enabled us to increase our seating capacity to around 175. As the school had no stage, we designed and built our own of approximately 20 feet by 20 feet. However, with a cast of around 50 people, it could still be quite a squeeze.

2000 saw Dick Whittington performed at Copleston School, Ipswich, and Westbourne School saw Little Red Riding Hood take to the stage in 2001.The Suffolk College, near to the town centre in Ipswich, was our venue from 2002 until 2005, with a seating capacity of 440.

In 2006 we moved to Chantry High School, again in Ipswich, and this remains our current venue.

All our pantomime scripts have been written by James Hayward & Lynne Mortimer. In fact, many of James and Lynne's scripts are performed by other groups in and around the Ipswich area.

For each production we try to make as many of our costumes as possible. As you can imagine, over the years we have accumulated quite a number, from individual costumes to complete sets. All our costumes are available for hire at very reasonable rates, so please visit our hire department for further details.

Although we mostly specialise in performing pantomimes, we have, over the years, performed a variety of different shows. Visit the shows page for a complete list of all the shows we have performed, togther with cast and crew details and galleries.

We are always keen to welcome new members, both on and off stage. Selection of parts for our shows is by audition, which normally takes place at the beginning of September, during the first read through. If you are interested in becoming a member of The Landseer Players, please visit the contacts page for details of who to contact.
