What the press said
Ipswich Evening Star, Friday 18th February 2005 - Paul Geater
Cast had us spellbound
If it's the February half-term, it must be the Landseer Players' annual panto which entertains the group's hundreds of fans. This year husband-and-wife writing team of James Hayward and Lynne Mortimer have given us their take on the timeless fairy tale.
Many of the Landseer Players' regular cast, who have kept us entertained over the years, take to the boards again in this show. Siobhan Bedford makes a delightful heroine in the title role and she is supported splendidly by Becky Frost as Prince Bernhardt.
Neville Wooniugh brings a real comic touch to the show as Peter Pumpernickel and he's given superb support from Sharna Simmons as Gretel the kitchen maid, while Keith Starling has a wonderful time as dame Frauline Frankfurter, the castle cook.
There are times when it looks as if Phil Cory, as Igor the Evil, is stealing the show in his role as sidekick to Wicked Queen, Sam Horsfield. His performance is straight from the David Brent school of acting - and dancing - as he has a great time hamming it up.
Overall the show is great entertainment with many showstopping numbers from Gershwin to the Cheeky Girls! This is the last year that the panto will be at Suffolk College - the proposed redevelopment of the college site means it won't be available next year.
Wherever the show does appear next year, the audience is sure to follow.
Paul Geater.
